An Untitled Work of Fiction: Chapter 5

Peggy was upset when they understood the whole timeline of my breakup with Jay, but two things helped them move beyond it.

Early 2020

I didn't mean to hurt her; in fact, I never had, even though I understand the optics. The timing was bad, I get that, but it was bigger than her. It was always bigger than her.

Jay and I had been together for a long time, the longest relationship I'd been in by far, even if you don't count the breaks. Every time I saw her again, I fell back in love with her. She was the most radiant, generous, empathetic person I'd ever met, or have ever met, still. Even beyond that, and on a superficial level, she was the hottest person I had ever met, or have ever met, still. She's mixed, both Black and white, and even though she struggles with being white-passing, I always saw her as Black. See her. I don't mean to sound like she's dead, it's just that this time, I don't think I'll ever get her back.
