I read Lena Dunham’s memoir.

Look, I’ve been online for a long time, and I’m the same age(ish) as Lena Dunham, which means we, in a broad sense, came up together on the internet. So I understand her, and I think she’s a good writer, and I find her insufferable. I likely wouldn’t have read this book if it weren’t for a new book club I’ve joined; in fact, this was our first book, and I’m prideful about book clubs. I always read the book!

I wasn’t going to read the book, not because of how I feel about Dunham (negative), but because I don’t really care about her life. I didn’t watch Girls (I tried once during quarantine and quit when they went on a road trip or something). I just found myself completely uninterested in the characters and their outcomes.

I don’t think I am better than anyone for not enjoying either Girls or Dunham herself. I like plenty of dumb white shit, but her dumb white shit just doesn’t really land with me.

Maybe it’s because when Girls premiered, many people told me I should watch because Dunham reminds me of them.
